Snaefellsnes is a peninsula of great diversity. In fact, of all the peninsulas in Iceland, Snaefellsnes is the most diverse and a favorite among many Icelanders. Snæfellsnes has so many amazing places to see and on this tour we will do our best to maximize your day on this beautiful peninsula. We will find what your interests are and shape the best possible private day tour for you and your group. Snæfellsnes Peninsula Private Tour is a great way to experience Iceland in one day, since it offers all the best of what Iceland has to offer. On this day tour you will see magnificent lava fields, black sand beaches, glaciers, volcanoes and
In this private tour to Snæfellsnes Peninsula we will drive away from Reykjavik and head through the tunnel below Hvalfjordur continuing through a town called Borgarnes. One of the first proper features of Snæfellsnes Peninsula will be Gerduberg basalt rocks, an impressive wall of beautiful basalt columns that form geometric patterns in the cliffs.
From Gerðuberg, we drive further into the mountains and end up doing a short hike through a lava field to find a surprise at the end of the path.
After this refreshing walk we drive over the mountains to the other side of the peninsula, Of course we stop to enjoy the view on the way and possibly walk to a small hidden waterfall.
For lunch we stop in at a cute local restaurant in Olafsvik. After lunch we drive a short way to Kirkjufell Mountain. Kirkjufell is the most photographed mountain in Iceland and one of the most photographed mountains in Europe. So don’t forget your camera. This mountain has been used at least 2 times the popular series of Game of Thrones.
We continue our way passing through the fishing towns of Hellissandur and Rif before arriving in the National Park of Snæfellsnes. The national park of Snaefellsnes has many great locations. We will explore most of them including Svortuloft lighthouse.
We continue our trip to Djupalonssandur black sand beach. Djúpalónssandur is one of Iceland’s most beautiful beaches. After we take in the views at Djupalonssandur we head on to Londrangar basalt cliffs. Londrangar is a uniquely formed remnants of basalt volcanic dikes standing up from the ocean. Here we walk up a hill to get the best possible picture of this strange formation in the sea.
Of course we do not skip Arnarstapi where we get to see the famous see Gatklettur or Arch rock. This is rock in the sea that the waves have eroded and formed. If weather allows we can drive up to Snaefellsjokull Glacier and enjoy the great view over the peninsula. Snaefellsjokull has also been in Holllywood and was featured in one of the great works of classic sci-fi literature: Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne.
If you are interested, we also have the option of hiking into Raudfeldsgjá. This is one of our favorite places on the peninsula since it is so unique. Rauðfeldsgjá is a beautiful canyon between 2 mountains with a waterfall at the end. Unfortunately the hike can only be done during the summer time.
How much we can do on this day depends on each group. We don’t have to do everything and can have a relaxing day exploring the best locations. But if you want a day packed with activities, we can also do that.
If you are interested in photography and like to take pictures during your travel then it’s perfect to book a private tour so you can travel with your small group and see all the most beautiful locations. Join this tour relax and let us take you to all the best places in Snaefellsnes.
Note that during the darkest winter months we might not be able to see all the sights mentioned above.
