Snæfellsnes is a beautiful peninsula in west Iceland. Most travelers go straight to the south coast or golden circle when they arrive to Iceland but we think that Snæfellsnes Peninsula is just as beautiful. It’s not as crowded with tourists as the south coast but you can still find beautiful waterfalls, mountains, glacier and volcano.
You can find plenty of things to explore on Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Take a good time to explore Snæfellsnes. If you do have the time, we would recommend two days to explore this area of Iceland but you can also take one day to explore all the main sights.
Top sights in Snæfellsnes Peninsula:
You can drive around Snæfellsnes Peninsula in one day with all the main stops. Road 54, called “Snæfellsnesvegur” will take you around the Peninsula and to all the main attractions. The road is easy to drive but we always recommend that you check the weather forecast before you head on to a self driving trip, especially in the winter.
You can rent a car and self drive through the beautiful south coast. If you don’t feel comfortable in driving on your own or if you would like to meet some new friends as you travel in Iceland, you can also find variety of bus tours and minibus tours that takes you sightseeing in Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
You can also add some great activity to both your self driving tours and group tours which we really recommend to make the most of your trip to the beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

Stykkisholmur is a small but beautiful fisherman town situated on the northern side of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. The town is filled with beautiful and well-preserved old houses in the town center.
Stykkisholmur is also known as the gateway to the innumerable islands of Breidafjordur bay, which is renowned for its natural beauty and remarkable wildlife. Go Sea Kayaking around Breidafjordur from Stykkisholmur.
Grundarfjörður is another small but beautiful fisherman town. Grundarfjörður is maybe not the most well-known town in Iceland or Snæfellsnes Peninsula but we think it’s absolutely beautiful. And the town has an amazing views of the famous Kirkjufell Mountain.

Ólafsvík is another small and charming fishing village on Snæfellsnes Peninsula. We recommend that you check out the waterfall that is located in the village.

Snæfellsnes Peninsula has numerous of fishing villages and most of the people living in Snæfellsnes make their living from fishing and tourism.
